Are there Employment
Opportunities in the “Green
Economy?”
Since little to no emphasis has been placed on the
environment in most industries, the opportunities for
employment in the Green Economy are vast. They also
intersect with many existing industries that have neglected
the ill effects caused by conventional operational methods.
Green Jobs or Green Collar Jobs comprise of many
different sectors of the economy. Employment in agriculture
and manufacturing in a green economy means producing
goods and services in a way that takes into account the
effect on the environment as well as reducing the amount of
fossil fuels burned to create goods and to provide services.
More opportunities exist in the “Green Economy” in research
and development to discover new methods of reducing
energy consumption, materials, and water by focusing on
discovering and implementing the most efficient methods of
energy generation and use. It also means implementing
strategies that produce the least amount of waste and
pollution possible typically with the ultimate goal of
producing no waste or pollution at all.

This is an issue that could have a significant impact on the future of this country,
and one in which veterans can and will play a critical role.
This comment focuses on three main priorities. First, when compared with the
civilian population, America’s veterans have a disproportionately high level of
skills directly applicable to this challenge. Second, veterans are in great need of
economic opportunity, now more than ever,in order to have any chance of
financial stability in these difficult times. And lastly, the government's immediate
involvement in finding employment for veterans will have tremendous
financial benefits in the future.
